What’s the first thing that goes through your mind whenyou think of the Pittsburgh Steelers playing the ArizonaCardinals? If you’re a Cardinals fan, you’ll undoubtedly be besiegedby images of Steeler receiver Santonio Holmes tip-toeingin the corner of the end zone in front of three helplessCardinal defenders for Pittsburgh’s game-winning touchdownin Super Bowl XLIII.Now, if you’re a Cardinals fan and you immediately billSunday’s game against the Steelers as a rematch of thatmemorable evening in Tampa almost three years ago, youshouldn’t. The paths these two franchises have taken since that SuperBowl are vastly different. The Steelers have kept their roster largely intact. Six oftheir Super Bowl starters on offense remain with the team, including quarterback Ben Roethlisberger and wide receiverHines Ward. On defense, every player who started againstthe Cardinals in Super Bowl XLIII is still on the roster. In all, twenty-four Steelers from the 53 players they hadin Tampa back in ’09 are still with the team. Probably apretty good reason why the Steelers are 27-14 since andhave already made a return trip to the Super Bowl, losinglast season’s finale to Green Bay in Arlington, Texas. The Cardinals have had a bit more roster turnover in thelast two-plus seasons. And yes, that is anunderstatement. Only ten players from the Cardinals’ 53-man roster heading into their first Super Bowl remain, andonly two defensive starters (Darnell Dockett and AdrianWilson) are still with the franchise. The others still around are Larry Fitzgerald, LyleSendlein, Deuce Lutui, Levi Brown, Michael Adams, CalaisCampbell, Early Doucet and Brandon Keith. Ten players remain. Ten! Probably a good reason why theCardinals are 17-22 since the Super Bowl match against theSteelers and are in danger of their 2nd straight lastplace finish in the NFC West. Horton joined Arizona Sports 620’s Doug & Wolf Show Tuesday and talked about the plan he crafted specifically for Brady and the Patriots. What an MLB source said about the D-backs’ trade haul for Greinke “Everything that we did was based on what had they did last year and what we thought they were going to do and a lot of it we took them out of their game plan so they didn’t do a ton of it,” Horton said. “[The plan] was to confuse Tom Brady, to come up with some things he hasn’t seen before, because it is different.”
Kerry Rhodes had a hell of a 2012 season for the Arizona Cardinals. The former Louisville Cardinal had 67 total tackles, four interceptions and a quarterback sack. ProFootballFocus.com had Rhodes rated as the fourth-best safety in all of football, so why hasn’t the 31-year-old played in the NFL since?Good question. There have been persistent rumors about Rhodes’ sexuality since last April when Russell “Hollywood” Simpson claimed that he had a homosexual relationship with the player. Top Stories Derrick Hall satisfied with D-backs’ buying and selling Former Cardinals kicker Phil Dawson retires The 5: Takeaways from the Coyotes’ introduction of Alex Meruelo Some have suggested Rhodes wasn’t picked up by any team in 2013 because of the rumors — a blacklisting of sorts — but the eight-year veteran has spoken up and said that isn’t the case.Rhodes granted Jane McManus of ESPN New York a phone interview Tuesday and denied the rumors about any unofficial blacklist he may have landed on.I don’t think I was blacklisted. Especially with the NFL I don’t think they would do that … to me it was a product of me wanting to do other things and not finding the right opportunity. And about the lingering rumors about his sexuality?I emphatically said no once and that’s all I need to say and people who know me know that’s definitely not the case. To me I’m definitely not and I can’t control what people think, so I move on.Rhodes went on to say that he’s still interested in continuing his NFL career, if the right situation were to present itself.Former Missouri defensive end Michael Sam made history last week when he announced he is gay. The 24-year-old will become the first openly gay player in the NFL when he is drafted in May. Comments Share Grace expects Greinke trade to have emotional impact
LB Zack Wagenmann (94) lines up to rush the quarterback during training camp. Former Cardinals kicker Phil Dawson retires Comments Share Grace expects Greinke trade to have emotional impact The Arizona Cardinals announced they have released linebacker Zack Wagenmann. In a corresponding move, the team has signed safety Anthony Walters. An undrafted rookie free agent linebacker out of Montana, Wagenmann was sidelined for much of the offseason with a broken foot. Unfortunately, he re-injured it in training camp. The team was intrigued by his potential, however, after he tallied 37.5 sacks and 201 tackles in four collegiate seasons. Derrick Hall satisfied with D-backs’ buying and selling Walters is re-joining the Cardinals after spending the 2014 offseason and training camp with the team before being released on Aug. 30. He went on to sign with the Chicago Bears, appearing in four games.Originally a rookie free agent out of Delaware in 2011, Walters has appeared in 37 games, tallying 21 special teams tackles, seven tackles on defense, one forced fumble and two tackles for loss. – / 26 Top Stories The 5: Takeaways from the Coyotes’ introduction of Alex Meruelo

Stat of the Game: Carolina totally controlled the clock in the second half, notching 12 first downs and holding the ball for 20:13 in the third and fourth quarters. He Said It: “I don’t think we gave them much to cheer for in the second half, so definitely can’t blame them for that. McVay spent three years there as the team’s offensive coordinator.Green Bay Packers 17… Seattle Seahawks 9It wasn’t exactly an offensive barn-burner. In fact, Blair Walsh’s 33-yard field goal as time expired in the first half gave the Seahawks a 3-0 lead and prevented the first scoreless first half in the NFL since 2012.That may have been the highlight for Seattle as the Seahawks were outscored 17-6 in the second half and couldn’t reach the end zone against a stout Packers defense. Green Bay harassed Russell Wilson, sacking him three times and holding him to 158 yards passing. The biggest play in the game came in the third quarter when Mike Daniels strip-sacked Wilson and Kyler Fackrell recovered for Green Bay at the Seattle 6-yard line. Ty Montgomery punched it in on the next snap, and the Packers grabbed their first lead, which they held the rest of the way. Standings Each week, we’ll run down what happened in the NFC West in How the West Was Won.Detroit Lions 35… Arizona Cardinals 23Well, that was ugly. The Cardinals used early Lions mistakes to build a 10-0 lead, then were outscored 35-13 the rest of the way in a discouraging loss at Ford Field. Most of the issues came on the offensive end. Arizona couldn’t run the ball, mustering only 45 yards on 18 carries, but they weren’t exactly adept in the passing game either. Carson Palmer looked uncomfortable all day and threw three picks, including one that was returned for a touchdown by Miles Killebrew with four minutes left in the game. Meanwhile, Detroit’s Matthew Stafford spent the second half looking like he’s worth the massive $135 million contract he signed in the preseason. Stafford shook off an early pick-six of his own to throw four touchdown passes including two in the fourth quarter to rookie Kenny Golladay as Detroit snapped a 7-game losing streak to the Cardinals.Stat of the Game: Palmer’s 53.2 QB rating his fifth-worst as a member of the Cardinals (including the postseason).
